Playas Del Coco is among the most well known beaches in the country and one of the favourite vacation spot for Costa Ricans. It is located only 20km from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. This means you are on the beach within 25 minutes after leaving the airport!
 

A very popular area for sport fishing, Playas del Coco is the largest village in Guanacaste. Known primarily as the gateway for surfers to reach places like Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock, where the waves are majestic, this busy beach is a prime snorkeling and scuba diving spot, with many tour and dive companies set up here.
 

Very popular among the locals, Playas del Coco has a well developed infrastructure, with good roads and plenty of shops, a church, banks, pharmacies, restaurants, bars, discos, casinos, hotels, resorts and supermarkets such as AutoMercado, Luperon, SuperCompro and MegaSuper.
 

The nightlife here is also quite exciting. If you happen to visit the area during Christmas or Easter week expect to find a lot of people here partying ‘tico style.’ Visitors to this little town of Coco rarely leave without being touched by the cordial warmth and hospitality of the Costa Rican people.
 

The beach of Playas Del Coco is a 3km stretch of golden-brown sand with the tide often remaining quite low. The beach is perfect for relaxing and safe for swimming. The community is working towards being awarded the Blue Flag. Surrounded by steep cliffs and hills, this horseshoe shaped bay is the ideal place to have fun and relaxation.
 

From Playas del Coco you can also head out to Pelonas Islands, Catalinas and Bat Islands, which are excellent sites to spot turtles, sharks and many species of whales in their natural habitat. The main attractions of Coco beach are its excellent variety of tourist facilities and great weather. Besides fishing excursions, the sailing here is also fabulous. Many tourists also use Playas del Coco as a base camp because of its affordable accommodations, when touring the Guanacaste region.
